For a week during the summer, my niece and nephew stayed over with us while their parents moved into their new house. I love these two to death, but they are super energetic and constantly need to be entertained or else they will say they are bored. That being said, I spent the week doing everything under the sun with these kids. One morning I woke up before them and was so excited to have a morning of peace and take some time alone with the Lord. Well right when I opened my Bible, I hear footsteps and then my niece is standing in front of me. I tried to hold back the sigh of disappointment. She asks me what I am doing, and I tell her that I am reading my Bible. She then asks if she can join me. I debated in my mind for a second on whether I should ask her to have some alone time for a little, but then I decided to let her join me. I asked if she knew how the world was created and she said no, so I turned to Genesis and started reading. As I read, she would comment things in awe like “God put all the trees on the earth!” Then she would ask me questions like where is the garden of Eden? I told her that there is no perfect place on earth anymore. Only Heaven is perfect and without sin! And the next thing out of her mouth was the definition of purity and innocence. She said, “If I have to die to go to Heaven, then can I just die now?” And this is where I got to tell her of her purpose here on Earth which is to help other people who do not know Jesus like her, and I do so that they can also go to Heaven someday. This exchange was one of the most wholesome things I have ever experienced, and I almost missed it because I wanted to do my own thing. I was about to read my Bible, which seems like the best thing someone can do and the best way I could spend my time, but God had other plans. We must be ready and okay with getting interrupted by the Lord. You know what the most amazing thing is, that every day following that morning, my niece would ask me if we were going to read the Bible together again!
